   The common coals used in Indian industry are bituminous and sub-bituminous coal. The
gradation of Indian coal based on its calorific value is as follows:
GRADE A (GCV EXCEEDS 6200 with moisture 19% approx)
GRADE B (GCV is 5600 – 6200 with moisture 21% approx)
GRADE C (GCV is 4940 – 5600 with moisture 28% approx)
GRADE D (GCV is 4200 – 4900 with moisture 34% approx)
GRADE E (GCV is 3360 – 4200 with moisture 38% approx)
GRADE F (GCV is 2500 –3360 with moisture 45% approx)
